McNairy In 2001, he appeared in Alex Holdridge’s Wrong Numbers, which earned the Audience Award at the Austin International Film Festival. Holdridge was contracted to rework Wrong Numbers into a studio film, which was never produced. McNairy traveled to Los Angeles to attend film school after developing an interest in photography and cinematography. He went to school for a year, then dropped out to work in film production, doing carpentry and building sets. He then worked as an extra until landing a consistent role in over 200 television ads. He eventually received offers for roles in feature films, which he has pursued since 2001.
McNairy represented colorful, independent young men with a rebellious streak. He had minor roles in films such as Wonderland, Herbie: Fully Loaded, and Art School Confidential. Gareth Edwards’ extraterrestrial invader film Monsters, starring McNairy and featuring entirely improvised dialogue, was released in 2010. It was shot in Mexico, Guatemala, Costa Rica, and Texas. By coincidence, his character’s wife in Halt and Catch Fire is played by Kerry Bishé, who also played his spouse in Argo. McNairy portrayed Wallace Keefe in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. McNairy is currently filming the drama The Line. He will appear in the film Fairyland, which will wrap filming in June 2022.
