Jerry Falwell Jr. is an American attorney, former academic administrator, and a known member of the Evangelical Christian Community. He has been serving as the president of Liberty University, Lynchburg, Virginia since his appointment in 2007.

Between 1987 and 2007, Falwell worked in private institutions in Virginia and as the counsel for Liberty University and its subsidiaries. Jerry served on the University’s Board of Trustees beginning in 2000. Jerry Jr. was entrusted with Liberty University upon his father’s death, while his brother Jonathan Falwell took over the leadership at Thomas Road Baptist Church. All of this occurred in 2007, following the death of Jerry Sr. However, his leadership in the University was riddled with controversies running from nepotism to totalitarian governance. On August 7, 2020, the University announced that Falwell would be on indefinite leave from his job. This was after a photo of him went viral with an unzipped pants and his arms around the waist of a woman in unzipped shorts. Later on August 24, 2020, it was reported that Falwell had agreed to resign. However, on August 7, 2020, Jerry decided to take an indefinite leave of absence from Liberty University. This was after posting a controversial photo of himself on social media. Later on August 25, 2020, he resigned after allegations were published that Jerry and his wife were in a year-long sexual relationship with a man they had met in 2012.
